SAINTE-ANNE

Protected by the southeastern peninsula of Martinique, Sainte-Anne is one of the largest and most popular anchorages on the island. As of this printing, mooring is still allowed in front of the Sainte-Anne beach (at a distance of no less than 300 meters - marked by yellow buoys) and in front of the Caritan Hotel on the northern stretch of the beach. As part of the Bay Contract, a cooperative agreement to manage the environmental impact in the Ste-Anne - Le Marin area, the mooring area is being revaluated.

• ASHORE

-  Marché Exotik and 8 à Huit- 2 supermarkets offering a wide selection of essentials, open daily 7:30am to 7:30pm on the main road ashore. Marché Exotik exchanges also money.

-  Anoli Village - Comfortable bungalows with a panoramic view of the Ste Anne Bay, a perfect place to stay at for a few days ashore or for visiting family and friends. You will appreciate the friendly welcome of the owners, Nicole and Milo.

-  Maya Beach Club Opposite the Caritan anchorage, Maya and Felix welcome you to their water park set on the beach. Kids of all ages will enjoy their trampoline, climbing wall, swimming lessons (for babies also) and other fun activities. For your well-being, try their relaxing massages...

Mandela, opposite the Collège 06 96 20 81 11) For Italian food lovers, Gianni , the chef with a singing accent, and his charming wife Isabelle serve Napolitan specialties made as they made them in Italy. Try their antipasti, their saltimbocca alla romana or pasta with rich and creamy sauces. A sensual sensory delight.

• SIGHTSEEING

Info, maps, excursions and the program of local events are available at the Tourist Office kiosk, at the end of the jetty.

Continuing from the jetty - you don't want to miss the church rebuilt in 1730 after being burned by the English and recently renovated.

Around the village, the small wooden houses reflect the past and the market is always worth a stop.

South of town, the road to the southern tip of the island wanders through 18.5 km of natural scenery. The first kilometers make a nice walk if you have a four-legged companion onboard !

The marine center of Martinique offers many professional services and everything for yachts. Cul-de-Sac du Marin is a large protected bay with a modern marina, moorings, haul-out facilities and hurricane holes on the eastern side of the bay. The town of Le Marin is rich in history and was of significant historical importance during the turbulent years of war with the English, and later as a sugar production center. Today, the marine industry is driving continued development.

-  Caraïbe Gréement - In this full rigging shop and chandlery, Philippe, the owner of this business, and his professional staff will take care of all types of rigging works, including rod rigging, swaging up to 22 mm, splicing. Their 250 square meter store on the ground floor of the blue building opposite Mango Bay and the dinghy dock offers a wide selection of name brand merchandise - deck hardware, pumps, solar panels, stoves, safety equipment, electronics and watermakers. Caraïbe Gréement offers prompt delivery of all special order items.

-  EMC -Jacques is a reliable yacht surveyor known for his qualitative surveys and experience. His office is on the first floor in the blue building.

-  A&C Yacht Brokers - Dealer for Fountaine Pajot and Dufour Yachts - Located on the second floor above Kiriacoulis, Dominique and his staff offer a wide range of yacths - monohulls and catamarans - for sale. If you you want to sell your boat, this is the place as well.

-  Le Ship (In the same building on the ground floor), is a well-stocked chandlery run by Viviane, the owner, and her staff. This large store offers a wide choice of hardware, cordage, safety gear, marine publications, and a nice range of cockery. They also have tenders on show.

-  Mécanique Plaisance - Near the customs office, Patrice and his staff have everything you need for your diesel engine. They are agents for Yanmar, Volvo, Perkins and Westerbeke as well as Tohatsu (outbordmotors). They stock a wide range of engines and generators and will make any kind of repairs on these brands. They also sell everything from alternators, inverters, to engine spares, filters, shaft materials. They have a workshop at Carénantilles.

-  Nautica Antilles - Specializes in diving equipment and they have a filling station near the airport in Lamentin (next to Jumbo Car).

-  Intercaraïbes Assurances - The number one marine insurance broker in the Antilles & Guyana offers 25 years of experience and a complete range of insurance solutions for yachtsmen and professionals including hurricane coverage underwritten by leading European and international underwriters. -  Alizés Yacht Services - In Martinique for many years, Lionel maintains and cares for your boat during your absence whether docked, moored or dry.

-  Carène Shop- At the boatyard entrance, Hervé, the owner of this great technical chandlery, and Pierre have everything you might need to haul out. You'll find all the best brands of marine paints and antifouling including the Spralac line of paints and varnishes with the on-site ability to mix over 2,000 colors to match any color you need. They stock a huge amount of maintenance products, marine batteries, sea cocks, plumbing, fasteners, anodes and much more. Carène Shop also rent tools.

-  Plus Nautique (upstairs) - Chandlery, stainless tubing, ropes, anchors, safety gear, nautical clothing, inflatables, trailers... they sell it all at the best prices. Ask for Olivier and Alex.

-  Nautic Services - Gaston does wet sandblasting and takes off and puts new antifouling paints on fiberglass hulls. He also does high pressure washer cleaning. The equiment is for rent.

-  Sud Marine Electronique - Frantz is perfect for all your marine electronics and electrical.

-  Crater Tony- He will make and repair almost everything in aluminum or stainless : tanks, biminis...

-  Voiles & Assistance - Didier and Maria, owners of this family business, will repair your sails and take care of all your canvas needs.

-  Altec Marine - Specializes in stainless and aluminum repairs and fabrication and will fix anything from bimini frames to pulpits and water tanks.

-  Hybride - Michel le Rouge specializes in epoxy and polyester repairs.

-  Metaleau - For earth friendly yachstmen Oceoprotec , an environmentally friendly anti-fouling system is now available. Oceoprotec is a permanent antifouling contains 80% copper and copper asbestos. It's hydrophobic, eco friendly and saves you the cost of annual dry-docking. -  Abadie- To serve yachtsmen even better, this well-known tropical mattresses manufacturer has a store in the Marine Bay Shopping Mall in Le Marin. Whatever your needs, a professionnal team will help you find the right mattress and foam and custom fit it.

-  Mer & Sport - Near Leader Price and a few steps from their dinghy dock, Mer & Sport offers a large range of fishing and spearfishing equipment as well as chandlery, safety material, mooring and anchorage equipment. You can also buy here specialty clothing and marine shoes.

-  Peintures Gauthier- Located behind Mer & Sport, this shop offers a complete line of marine paints.

• ARTIMER - just west of the boatyard, a compound partly dedicated to yachting with marine, grocery and hardware stores.

-  Clippers Ship - This fully equipped 500 m2 chandlery owned by Christian, the founder of Multicap Caraïbes boat construction yard, provides a large selection of chandlery, maintenance products, epoxy resins, composite materials, marine paints and antifouling, complete safety gear, rigid and semi-rigid inflatables, and generators... Clippers Ship is also the exclusive importer of Brazilian motor boats. Jocelyne and Erwan both speak English. Accessible by dinghy via Manuel river.

-  Incidences - Opposite to Clippers Ship, this sailmaker is located in a huge and magnificient 650 m2 custom built loft - the biggest in the Caribbean. Hervé, the owner, and his experienced staff can take care of any kind of sails and canvas jobs : new sails, repairs, biminis, dodgers, dinghy covers… Positioned along a dinghy dock, Incidences is equipped with a custom crane to lift sails directly into the premises. To better service their clients, a professional skipper will come to your boat to remove and replace your sails or canvas.

-  YES (Yachting Engineering System) - With his shop based next to Incidences at Artimer, Thierry can fix or install watermakers and any electrical equipment and makes plastic welding.

-  Fraîcheur Service - Sharing the same premises as Yes, Manuhas a good reputation in marine refrigeration. He sells, repairs and installs refrigeration equipments, air-conditioning, ice machines.

-  Quinca Plus - Just a few minutes walking distance from the marina, this hardware retailer offers a wide selection of products at low prices : bolts, fastenings, tools, inox screws and marine plywood.

DEPARTING MARIN IN THE DIRECTION OF FORT-DE-FRANCE

-  W.I.N.D. (Laugier industrial zone in Rivière Salée, next Crédit Agricole bank) - Wholesaler and importer, this company specializes in marine paints and composite materials. Bruno, the owner, and his professional staff will advise you on the best solutions in paints, lacquer, varnish, epoxy resins, maintenance products adapted to our tropical conditions. W.I.N.D. also has the largest selection of flags and pennants in Martinique (standard flags or customised) and supplies a range of marine batteries.

-  Madinina Plongée Services They are now located in Ducos in Rond Point Espace 972 shopping mall (just after Génipa, off the mainroad leading to Fort-de-France) - This shop specializes in scuba-diving and spearfishing. They sell everything you need. Doume, the owner of the shop, also fills tanks and does after-sales service.

-  La Dulcéria - Next to Mousse Café, this small shop with bright and colorful colors will delight kids and grown-ups alike ! Natural fruit juices, sweets and confectionary, traditional chocolates with island flavors and Italian ice-cream for your sweet tooth.

-  Air Conditioned Car Rental Limited - With agencies located in Marin and St Anne, this car rental business run by the Ozier Lafontaine family is much appreciated by yachtsmen. They specialize in air-conditioned vehicles and have interesting rates for long-term rentals.

-  Optik Krys (at Marine Bay Shopping Mall) - You can choose sunglasses, prescription and reading glasses in a variety of brands and styles. At Vision Plus, near the Police station, you can buy trendy models at low prices.

-  2Amath (Opposite Leader Price) - this maths-physicschemistry school is of great assistance to young students whether they have school on board or not.

-  Diaka Laverie - Yvonne has her laundry in town (opposite the video club). You can either leave her your laundry or do it yourself in her machines. Pick-up service and delivery to the docks in Le Marin and Ste Anne.

-  Ellen Energy- Mary-Ellen receives you by apointment and helps you recover your well-being. Harmonize your Inner-Self through several certified techniques : massages - relaxing, shiatsu, Californian, ayurvedic, lymphatic drainage-reiki, parapsychology...

-  ADI - computer after-sales service - Located near Champion supermarket, a young and dynamic staff will advise you on buying a new PC, laptop, software and accessories and will program your computer according to your needs. They also repair and service computers.

Just a few steps from Carénage, on the Champion parking lot, - Eden Phone specializes in mobile phones at low prices. They sell all the latest models as well as accessories at discount prices. They also repair GSM phones.

-  Bio Vital - Located in town, Bio Vital offers nutrition conscious products. They sell vegetarian products, organic vegetable oils and whole-wheat flours and also beauty products based on Argan and natural and nutritive ingredients.

SHOPPING

-  Aquaboutique - At the marina sharing the premises with Aquabulle, this is a store where color and originality rule and where you'll find a large range of home deco items, quaint and fun, but always handy on a boat. A special mention for the superb bath towels and the costume jewellery.

-  Bleu Océan - Located upstairs in the orange building at the Marina, Dimitri and Françoise have a nice collection of quality beachwear, branded bathing suits, Bruno Peyron boat shoes as well as cigarettes, post cards, telephone cards and local souvenirs.

-  L'Atelier - After many years in Sainte-Anne, this shop is now also in Le Marin in front of the marina, with a wide selection of quality handicraft, both local and from far away : small furniture, lamps, deco items and fancy jewellery made from natural materials.

-  Queen Créole - In the Marine Bay shopping mall - easily accessible from the Leader Price dinghy Dock, Queen Créole offers a nice selection of colourful PVC croquery that's practical on board. They also stock household linens and kitchen accessories at good prices.

NAUTICAL EVENTS

The 20th edition of the Martinique International Fishing Tournament is organized by Martinique Billfish Association and will take place in Le Marin in November 2010.

-  Mousse Café (05 96 78 31 05) - Across from the marina and near Sparkling Charter, Jacques and Valérie and their entire team will extend a convivial welcome at any hour. You'll appreciate the spacious terrace with its great ventilation. Whether daily specials, pizzas or late-night drinks and tapas, the menu offers great variety at the right price. Mousse Café is definitely the favourite hang-out for mariners and other travellers.

A traditional fishing village with clear water and calm beaches. Anchor to the north or south of the new buoys so you will be clear of the fishermen who set their nets in the bay.

-  Le P'ti Bateau (05 96 65 50 19) - Ideally located opposite the dinghydock, this beachfront restaurant invites tourists and locals alike to enjoy French and Creole specialties as well as tasty crepes in an enchanting setting. Marianne and her staff provide many services to yachtspeople including custom clearance service, wifi access and water tanks filling.

-  Le Bidjoul - A large restaurant with covered terrace and tables on the beach. A great place to watch the sunset.

-  Kay Zaza - The place to go for all your needs : laundry, internet, fax, phone, etc.

There are also three convenience stores for the essentials including bread, beer and ice.

ANSE MITAN ET POINTE DU BOUT

Across from the bustling city of Fort-de-France, this calm bay is popular with yachts. Located near restaurants, hotels and the resort district, Anse Mitan offers a number of services for tourists and ferry access to Fort-de-France.

In the main salon there are many slot machines, table games, a restaurant and bar, and an incredible New-Orlean's themed ambiance created through architecture and all the "goings on" of this new casino. FORT-DE-FRANCE

The anchorage is on the east side of the Baie des Flamands, below and west of Fort Saint-Louis.Landing by dinghy is now much easier since the inter-island ferries have moved to another dock. Savannah Park and the Fort-de-France waterfront are being redeveloped to incorporate a promenade that will connect areas for concerts, cultural exhibits and ethnic dining. Improvements to enhance access to nautical activities at Baie des Flamands and La Française beach are also underway.

A professionnal team welcomes you Monday through Saturday in their showroom in Kerlys.

-  Equipboat - In the Kerlys artisan village, near Intersport, Marc Eugene and his team offer yachtsmen, fishermen and professionals a whole line of electronic marine goods. They sell GPS units, alarms and tracking systems, waterproof marine audio systems, trailers as well as a range of boating accessories.

-  Bin's (also located in Kerlys) is a custom embroidery specialist. They can digitize your design and can custom embroider anything from polo shirts, classic shirts, t-shirts, to caps and bath towels.

ON THE BOATYARD BAIE DES TOURELLES AND NEARBY

-  Chalmessin Enterprise (on the left side of the entrance of Carenantilles) are focused on aluminum and stainless works.

-  Plus Nautiques - Just as in Le Marin, this shop offers a large range of chandlery, rope, anchors, safety gear, trailers, navigation electronics… Ask for Pierre or Daniel.

-  Polymar - Based in the haul-out compound, Max, the owner, and his staff are specialists in epoxy and polyester construction and they do wetsandblasting. The store offers marine plywood and an assortment of deck hardware, plumbing, electrical supplies as well as hydraulic pumps and equipment.

-  Mercury - The representative of Mercury engines in Martinique, they can help you with outboard motors from 2,5 to 300 hp.

-  Antilles Miroiterie (located also in La Lézarde zone) They are the specialists in mirrors, acrylic sheets and PVC all of which can be cut to order.

-  Abadie (in Rivière Roche zone)- This is the place for custom made foam and mattresses for the tropical climate.

-  Booster Battery Center (in the zone opposite Galleria Shopping Mall)- This marine battery specialist also supplies lubricants and marine oils.

-  Solar Electric (in Manhity zone in Lamentin)- They sell and install solar panels.

-  Tilo (On the main road leading to Le Robert)- this family run business is the place to go for custom printed crew t-shirts. The colour printing is made on the premises where they have all the latest equipment. Ask for Cedric, he will help you choose the right t-shirt (they have a large range of shirts in different styles) and their graphic studio will advise on the best design.

-  Babaorum (05 96 75 03 32) - Near Dillon Distillery this colonial house set in a tropical garden hosts a popular restaurant known for its great cuisine and relaxed atmosphere that keeps happy customers - residents and tourists alike - coming back for more. Please note that cell phones are not allowed !
 Fried camembert cheese served with blueberry jam ; Buffalo tournedos.

-  Le Mayflower - The restaurant with a marine setting welcomes sailors for a gourmet lunch or a theme evening. You can appreciate the magnificent hull-shaped bar and the billiard table.

-  Nuevo Mejico - Mexican specialities served in a entertaining atmosphere. Muy caliente !

-  L'Impératrice - Just a short walk from the anchorage in Fort-de-France and facing the Savannah park, the Impératrice hotel provides yachtpeople with air-conditioned rooms, all refurbished in 2009. The Joséphine restaurant on the first floor serves quality creole food while the bar, with a wonderful view on the Savannah park is a nice place to meet and enjoy a cocktail in a relaxed air conditioned comfort.

-  Cour Perrinon - In the heart of the city, this brand new shopping mall is offering more than 50 shops including a Champion supermarket, Librairie Antillaise book and multimedia store, some fashionable shops and a food court. -  Tilo (Downtown FDF) - This is the place to go for souvenirs, local arts & crafts and island T-shirts.They also have a great selection of madras fabrics - very colorful prints, perfect for making tablecloths, napkins and traditionnal creole dresses.

-  La Galleria (Acajou, Le Lamentin) - Only 10 minutes from downtown, the largest mall in the Lesser Antilles has all the major French, Caribbean and international fashion brands in a modern air-conditioned space. Galeries Lafayette - the department store for Parisian fashion and beauty - is also there.

-  Coup de Soleil (in the industrial zone of La Jambette) This shop has a wide selection of Guzzini colorful design kitchen items (wine and champagne glasses,salad bowls...) perfect onboard. They also have top design marine furniture (check their Deck Line chairs and tables) and marine deco items.

The anchorage at Saint-Pierre extends more than a mile north and south of the town dock. Anchor close to the beach along the waterfront to find shallow water.

SIGHTSEEING

Explore the ruins of the Eglise du Fort, the first church on the island, destroyed in 1902. Dive the wrecks sunk in the bay after the eruption of Mount Pelée.

The Earth and Sciences Discovery Center- A unique opportunity to learn about the science of our ever-changing planet through interactive exhibits.

The Depaz Distillery - About a half hour walk uphill from the anchorage (see our Rum section).

-  Fish Bô Kaï (05 96 78 32 42) - Chantal and Gilles welcome you to their waterfront restaurant at the southern entrance of Saint-Pierre. Fish Bô Kaï's specialty is fresh local fish and the menu depends on the catch of the day. Here it's all about relaxing and taking it easy.On weekends, enjoy your dinner while listening to live calypso or jazz music. They also offer wifi access, water, basic grocery items and friendly information about their island. 
-  Le Moulin à Cannes (05 96 78 74 23) - Nested in the heart of Depaz Plantation, this ancient mill dating from the 18th century is home to a popular restaurant, serving quality creole cuisine for lunch in a stunning setting.

-  LE HAVRE DU ROBERT

Extending over 3 square miles between Larose peak in the south and Rouge peak in the north, Havre du Robert is a vast bay protected by a dozen of islands. At the end of the bay, Le Robert, a small fishing village will show yachtsmen another facet of Martinique. The water of Le Robert is an ideal site for coastal cruising, yawl races and regattas.

-  YACHT SERVICES Located near the old Robert sugar factory, the Marina du Robert welcomes yachts visiting the island (see our section on Marinas).

-  ASHORE

-   Huit à 8 supermarket near the church offers the essentials and a few gourmet surprises.

Many typical restaurants line the seashore offering Creole specialties, particularly fish. On the seafront, the catch of the day is sold by the fishermen.

-  SIGHTSEEING

The Church of Le Robert with its completely blue tower dominates the main street.

-  Les Kayaks du Robert - Located at Pointe Savane, Nathalie and her staff offer kayaks for rent (day or 1/2 day options),a popular way to discover the mangrove and the islets at your own pace.
